Career Interests

By admin - Posted on 31 October 2008

If I could use one word to sum up my career thus far it would be flexible. From overseas schoolteacher to wildlife technician, my interests are many and far flung. As a teen, I wrote down 100 things I wanted to experience in my life. That listed included such topics as write a book, learn another language and see the Great Barrier Reef. My tendency to be a generalist, along with my adaptive personality, means that I have tried many things and enjoyed them all, from surfing to training wild animals.

As someone with a flexible nature, I am attracted to technology and the rapid changes it brings. Upon deciding to attend library school, I promptly enrolled in my first technology class. That semester I made my first website with Dreamweaver, authored a podcast and dabbled in wiki creation. This led me to concentrate my studies in the Information Professional track, with an emphasis on Systems Librarianship, and to expand my repertoire of technical knowledge. This entire website, powered by Drupal, was created by myself as an exercise in content management.

I enjoy many aspects of librarianship and consider myself a generalist in the field, with experience as a program instructor and an assistant children's librarian, but my passion lies with technology and digital librarianship. I look forward to graduating in May, 2009 and embracing my next adventure.
